SPOTLIGHT on Formal Practice-Based Teaching

The results are in from the 2025 GPSA Annual National Survey - and this year we took a closer look at how supervisors undertake formal teaching with their registrars. GP25

Our team had a fantastic experience at GP25, with plenty of opportunities to connect, learn, and listen. The GPSA booth became a real hub of conversation, and we made the most of it by asking supervisors and practice teams what matters most to them right now. We’ve shared just some of those insights below, and we extend a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by. Your feedback continues to shape and strengthen the work we do every day.

It was also wonderful to see members of the GPSA team contributing to the conference program - you can read Dr Simon Morgan’s reflections below. An event highlight was our Chair, Dr Srishti Dutta, being honoured with the Future Leader’s President’s Award, a well-deserved recognition of her impact and leadership.

The case for becoming a GP Supervisor

If you have colleagues who are curious about taking on a GP Registrar but aren’t quite sure what the role really involves, this is the article for them.

In it, Dr Helen Dooley shares practical tips and candid reflections on the genuine rewards of supervision — and how stepping into this role can enrich your practice, strengthen the profession, and support the next generation of GPs.

She tackles the common questions head-on: Why add supervision to an already full workload? And why take on responsibility for a registrar’s patients as well as your own?
