1. RACGP announces Dr Michael Wright as President-Elect
The RACGP has announced Dr Michael Wright as the successor for President Nicole Higgins, whose term concludes at the College's conference in Perth in late November. Details of the appointment were reported in The Medical Republic on 23rd August: https://www.medicalrepublic.com.au/racgp-elects-dr-michael-wright-as-president/110077 and in this RACGP media release.
2. Support your registrars to complete Registrar Clinical Encounters in Training
GPSA members are thanked for the assistance provided in implementing the Registrar Clinical Encounters in Training (ReCEnT) project. While some regions have been involved with this project for many years, others have only recently been asked to participate and may have some questions that need answering!
- What's involved in the ReCEnt project?
The ReCEnt project requires the registrar to contribute data from 60 consecutive patient consultations.
- What does the registrar get out of participating in the ReCEnt project?
The registrar's data is analysed to provide them with feedback about how they are tracking against their peers.
- What does the practice get out of participating in the ReCEnt project?
Once a practice has been involved with at least five registrar terms in ReCEnT, they will receive an annual practice report. In addition to gaining specific insights about the registrars’ clinical experiences, this report will enable the supervision team to learn more about the general attributes of the practice.

4. 2025 NT Placement Support Grant
Do you have a register who might be interested in working in NT but needs help with their decision? The RACGP's NT Placement Support Grant allows registrars to visit training sites in advance, allowing them to experience both the practice and the community before making their placement decisions. It also offers a chance to explore the local area including schools and other amenities, making it easier to plan and prioritise their placement applications. Full eligibility guidelines can be found here.
Applications close: 20 September 2024
Outcomes: To be finalised by 27 September 2024
Note: Funding is limited, so registrars are encouraged tro apply now to ensure they don’t miss out on this opportunity to discover new experiences in the NT.
For more information contact the RACGP's Workforce Planning Mnager for the NT here.
5. WA change of semester dates
After extensive consultation with Western Australia (WA) stakeholders, a decision has been made to align the WA AGPT semester dates for both ACRRM and RACGP with registrar employment dates in the WA hospitals.
This realignment will take effect from Semester 2, 2025 with a full alignment to be expected by the end of the 2026 training year. This change has been communicated through electronic digital marketing (eDM) to registrars and supervisors on 29 July 2024 and 14 August 2024.
The RACGP WA AGPT team held a webinar on 15th August 2024 for supervisors. This is the link to the recording (please note password for this 0=uJn.Ub), and below you can access the RACGP's accompanying resources:
