GPRA/GPSA Joint Update – Review of the NTCER for 2025/2026

Published on August 14, 2024

Throughout 2024, the peak organisations responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the NTCER Agreement, GPRA and GPSA, have been actively engaged in the process of reviewing the minimum terms and conditions underpinning the relationship between training practices and registrars.

We would like to thank all the registrars, supervisors, pracice owners, practice managers, the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care and other key sector staekholders who contributed to our extensive individual and joint consultation processes.

These processes have revealed the need to expand the application of the NTCER to provide greater certainty for the rights and responsibilities of training practices and registrars on all pathways, as well as those engaged under secondment arrangements such as with the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) or other types of Single Employer Model (SEM).

Another focus of this review has been the rapidly changing employment law and taxation context. While cognisant of timeframes for 2025.1 AGPT placements, GPRA and GPSA have accordingly been engaging with other agencies to cross-check the NTCER against current applications of state legislation as well as the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992 (Cth) before finalising the new version of the Agreement and accompanying employment templates. These will be made available very soon.
