Media Release - GPSA Online Supervision Symposium a Resounding Success
The inaugural GPSA Online Supervision Symposium has been hailed a huge success, attracting 605 registrations from GP supervisors, educators, registrars and presenters from across Australia - and around the world - for an extraordinary 24-hour online learning experience.
The symposium featured a remarkable diversity of topics reflecting the breadth of contemporary general practice and medical education. Sessions explored everything from medical education and GP training insights, practice management, health of the older person, wellbeing, dealing with uncertainty, orientation and mentoring for GP supervisors, registrars in difficulty, generalism, the GPME Hive, managing UTIs and, yes, even snakebites. And so much more.
We were delighted to welcome Dr Michael Wright, who joined us live from Canberra while attending the Federal Budget proceedings. His participation was just one of many highlights across the symposium.
GPSA extends its sincere thanks to all presenters who generously volunteered their time, expertise and passion to make the event possible. Their willingness to share knowledge and practical insights created an engaging and valuable learning experience for everyone involved.
A special thank you goes to Dr Simon Morgan, whose vision and enthusiasm drove the symposium concept. GPSA also acknowledges Dr Justin Coleman for co-hosting alongside Simon. Together they expertly guided participants through the 24-hour learning marathon with warmth, humour and expertise.
We are grateful to everyone who attended, contributed to discussions, asked questions and engaged in the chat throughout the event. Your participation helped create a rich, collaborative and supportive learning environment that embodied the spirit of GP supervision and education.
GPSA Chair Dr Candice Baker praised the symposium’s success and the spirit of collaboration behind the event.
“The GPSA Online Supervision Symposium showcased the generosity, expertise and passion within our GP supervision community. The willingness of presenters and participants to share ideas, experiences and practical wisdom across 24 hours of learning was truly inspiring. This event demonstrated our shared commitment to excellence in GP training and supervision,” said Dr Baker.
For those unable to attend, or participants wishing to revisit sessions, the majority of symposium presentations will soon be available on the GPSA YouTube Channel.
The success of this inaugural event demonstrated the strength and enthusiasm of the GP supervision community, and we look forward to building on this momentum in the future.
