
Exploring innovation in health professional education - GPSA at ANZAHPE 2025
Dr Simon Morgan, GPSA's Education Manager, shares his thoughts on this year's ANZHAPE.
GPSA once again took part in the annual Australian and New Zealand Association for
Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE) conference, held this year in Perth. Carla
Taylor and I attended on behalf of GPSA, with both of us contributing to the program and
making valuable connections with universities, educators, and academics - many of whom
expressed interest in collaborating or trialling GPSA resources, including the consultation
game.
Preconference workshops of note
Three workshops stood out for their relevance to GP supervisors:

Generative AI and prompt engineering: While largely introductory, a useful takeaway
was the use of RTRI framework (Role, Task, Requirements, Instructions) for crafting effective prompts. You can read about it here.

Behind the mask – Navigating emotions in medicine and Remediation and learner responsibility:
Both explored the emotional landscape of teaching and supervision, offering practical
insights for supporting learners in difficulty.
Conference program
The conference provided a rich overview of how other health disciplines approach education.
The broad themes included interprofessional learning; technology and learning (mainly AI!);
selection; assessment; teaching in the workplace; equity, diversion and inclusion; faculty
development; professionalism; curriculum design; well-being; and future horizons. Like most
of these conferences, there were multiple parallel strands, and it was difficult to access all
the sessions one wanted to attend.
GPSA presentations

I presented on our collaboration with RANZCR, with GP educator Ruth Sutherland in
attendance. -
I also spoke about the consultation game and our evaluation approach, focusing on
gamification and potential cross-disciplinary application. -
Carla Taylor presented a poster on GPSA’s suite of apps which generated strong
interest among delegates.
All presentations were well received and helped position GPSA as a leader in innovative,
practice-based GP education.
