
Northern Territory Registrar Attraction - GPRA and RACGP Grants Now Open!
GPRA and RACGP are both offering grants to attract GP registrars to train and work in the Northern Territory. This information is provided for general information and to pass onto anyone who can benefit from these initiatives.
The 2025 GPRA Northern Territory Scholarships Program for GP Registrars
GPRA's NT Scholarships Program for 2025 is now accepting nominations and applications.
GPRA has four scholarships available:
· 3 in 2025 to support GP registrars who are currently training in the NT
o Dr Debbie Stach Northern Territory GP Registrar of the Year Award
$10,000 awarded in 2025 to one GP registrar enrolled in the AGPT training program in the NT. Supervisors may nominate registrars for this award.
o Ada Wilmadda Parry Aboriginal Health Scholarship
2 x $5,000 scholarships awarded in 2025 to two GP registrars enrolled in the AGPT training program in the NT.
o Professor Alan Walker Paediatric Scholarship
3 x $5,000 scholarships awarded in 2025 to three GP registrars enrolled in the AGPT training program in the NT.
· 1 for those who are aiming relocating to the NT for their training.
o GPRA Northern Territory Rural and Remote Scholarship
2 x $20,000 scholarships awarded in 25/26 to two GP registrars outside the NT to relocate to the NT for consecutive 2 training semesters. (12 months)
Fast facts:
- Applications open until 24 April 2025 and will be announced in June 2025.
- Applicants must be enrolled in a GP training program in the NT and be members of
- GPRA (free membership).
- Scholarships range from $5,000 – $20,000.

RACGP's NT AGPT Training Grant (2026/2027)
The RACGP has introduced a trial of the NT Training Grant to incentivise candidates to select the NT as their preferred training region.
Key Details:
- Grant Overview: A $20,000 grant distributed in two payments of $10,000 each.
- Payment Schedule: Payments will be made upon completing GPT1 and GPT2 in the NT, provided the registrar signed up for the NT training region at the time of selection.
- Additional Incentives: The grant is offered in addition to existing registrar placement incentives provided by the RACGP, other grant offerings, and NCP framework payments to registrars.
- Part-Time Training: Registrars completing their training part-time remain eligible and will receive payments upon completing GPT1 and GPT2, regardless of the year.
- Eligibility: No application is required. Registrars who are successfully offered a position in the AGPT program in the NT and complete GPT1 and GPT2 in the region will automatically qualify.
This initiative highlights RACGP’s commitment to addressing workforce needs in the NT.
