June 2022... So it begins!

Published on September 24, 2023

Not surprisingly, the question I keep asking myself as I look around and see how much work I need to do to get up to speed with this GP training / national peak context is "What was I thinking when I said yes to this CEO role?"!

But I'm nothing if not determined, and curious, and always up for a challenge!

This first month has set me on a steep learning curve, kicking off with my first GP Training Advisory Council (GPTAC) meeting, which was notably face to face (I'd almost forgotten how that works!). This gave me the opportunity to meet all the key stakeholders - DOHAC, GPRA, ACRRM, RACGP, RTON, RDAA, AIDA, AMA - and observe how GPSA is perceived by the sector. Honestly, I came away cringing a little at how blatantly we were regarded as small fry in this space that literally would not exist without the GP supervisors and training practices I've signed on to represent. With the transition from RTO-led training, we'll just see if we can't overturn this attitude next year...

More than a dozen meetings with RACGP, ACRRM and GPRA rounded out the sector stakeholder meetings for June, with planning afoot for national bi-College communications about the PLT Transition, and mapping of the GPSA/GPRA NTCER review scheduled for the second half of this year.

Other than that, we're surging ahead with an exciting mix of webinars for the remainder of the calendar year, and embedding research in everything we do. And of course I'm blessed to have a great team around me to help field the calls about specifics I'm still learning about - but if it's business or employment advice you need, I actually have something to offer thanks to 20 years as a CEO in the corporate world, so please don't hesitate to reach out!!
