You asked – we listened.
At the end of every GPSA webinar, we ask you what topics you’d like us to cover next.
Since late 2023, you’ve shared hundreds of suggestions. These responses provide a valuable snapshot of the educational needs and priorities of GP supervisors, practice managers and other members of the supervision team. Recently we analysed them to help shape GPSA’s future education program – and the results were clear.
You consistently asked for practical support to help you become even better educators. The most common requests included supporting registrars in difficulty, giving effective feedback, teaching and assessment skills, orientation, communication skills and time management.
Many of these topics have already shaped our educational program. Over the past two years we’ve delivered webinars, symposium sessions and practical resources on topics including registrar support, consultation teaching, feedback, orientation, communication skills, and AI in general practice. That these topics continue to be requested tells us they remain enduring priorities for supervisors.
The other major theme is the business of general practice. You are keen for practical guidance on topics such as Medicare and MBS compliance, billing, registrar employment, contracts and practice management. These requests highlight the importance of preparing registrars not only as clinicians, but also for the practical realities of working in contemporary general practice.
Clinical topics also feature prominently, particularly women’s health, ADHD, dermatology, mental health and obesity. We’ll continue to develop education in these areas while maintaining a strong focus on the skills of supervision.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and culturally safe supervision, together with rural and remote supervision, remain important priorities for our educational program. We’ll also continue to develop practical resources on artificial intelligence to help you confidently navigate this rapidly evolving field.
