The year is on the march ... lots happening, and most of us have a lot to do. In busy times it is hard to step off the treadmill and focus on the most important things. How often when we ask someone how they are getting on, the first response is "busy". Indeed, we often wear 'busyness' with a certain badge of pride - when perhaps we ought to slow down a little and enjoy the ride.

Closely connected to being 'busy' is being overloaded and/or inefficient - we are pedalling fast, but only just moving forward. I know there are times when I seem to be 'adding to my list' rather than crossing items off it. I think this is particularly true for GPs and those involved in supervision.

So what is the secret? For some of us, this means breaking list items down into smaller subsets (so we can tick more items off more easily). For others in the health and medical sector, it involves creating more space in our schedules, perhaps by scheduling one less consultation rather than trying to squeeze in one more. It may involve reviewing priorities and actively deferring, delegating, or sharing less important items (where appropriate).

Regardless of our approach, while we all have busier times, it is important for our levels of job satisfaction that we have a sense of achievement, rather than constantly feeling 'bogged down'. We do our best work when we are feeling 'on top of things' and can devote quality time to what truly matters: our clients, our medical students, our family.

Just what are we busy doing?

The GPSA team has been busy settling in the AGPT PM Training Management Course which has been taken up by many in our practice manager community. It is pleasing to see the feedback from participants and to hear that the course is of benefit to their day to day work.

We are also gearing up for the yearly webinar program, more education resources, and our recently launched, bold intiative, the GPSA Online Supervision Symposium. Importantly, we have also prepared the upcoming 2026 ENGAGE Supervision Survey. More information on these projects is outlined in this edition of eNews and full details are available on our website.

At the end of the month, GPSA staff met in Melbourne for the annual planning day with a clear focus on bringing the newly developed GPSA Strategic Plan 2026-2030 to life. Staff worked through the operational priorities that will guide implementation in 2026 and in the years ahead - ensuring our strategic direction translates into practical, measurable action. We are grateful to RWAV for generously allowing us to use their office space for the day, which was very much appreciated
