Announcing the new Co-Chairs of the SLO Advisory Council

Published on January 29, 2026

We are pleased to announce the new Co-Chairs of the Supervisor Liaison Officer (SLO) Advisory Council for 2026.

  • Dr James Best (ACRRM)
  • Dr Jo Chaffey (RACGP)
  • Dr John Vaughan (RACGP)

The SLO Advisory Council brings together Supervisor Liaison Officers from across Australia, recognising their critical role as a trusted source of guidance and support for GP supervisors and practices. SLOs continue to play an essential role in strengthening supervision, supporting quality training experiences, and ensuring supervisors’ perspectives are heard at a national level.

Established in 2023 under a Memorandum of Understanding between GPSA, ACRRM and RACGP,  the Council provides a collaborative forum for SLOs across colleges and training pathways. GPSA supports the Council in a facilitation and secretariat capacity, while leadership, priorities and decision-making remain with the SLOs and their elected Chairs.

Throughout 2025, the Council continued to provide a strong national voice for GP supervisors, fostering collaboration and constructive dialogue across the sector to support the sustainability of GP supervision and training.

GPSA Chair Dr Candice Baker, a former SLO Advisory Council Co-Chair, welcomed the appointments.
“Having worked closely with the SLO network, I have seen firsthand the value of a strong, connected Advisory Council,” Dr Baker said.

“The SLO role is vital in supporting supervisors and practices, and I look forward to seeing this experienced leadership group continue to strengthen that support nationally.”

GPSA congratulates Dr Best, Dr Chaffey and Dr Vaughan on their appointments and looks forward to working with them and the broader SLO Advisory Council in 2026 to continue supporting GP supervisors across Australia.
