In 2025, the focus of Coeliac Awareness Week is is on children affected by coeliac disease, an autoimmune disease that reacts to gluten. Gluten then causes inflammation of the small intestine.It is not the same as an allergy! Gluten contains a specific protein that can damage the lining of the small intestine, and in severe cases can affect other body parts – but this reaction only affects people with coeliac disease.
