SLO Advisory Council Meeting June 2024

Under the facilitation of GPSA, the SLO Advisory Council convened in Brisbane on June 21-22, bringing RACGP, ACRRM and RVTS supervisor representatives from across the country together for their annual in-person meeting.

This meeting held particular importance as the 21 SLOs in attendance were afforded the opportunity to provide advice to key members of the two GP specialty colleges’ leadership teams, condensing the robust discussions from their in-camera session into four topics:

  1. Bi-College professional development for supervisors

  2. College acknowledgement of and attention to supervisor concerns including SLO accessibility for and access to supervisors/practice teams

  3. Practice accreditation / de-accreditation and flexibility of placement terms

  4. SLO involvement in mediation and conflict processes

These advice points were presented to and discussed at length with ACRRM President Dr Dan Halliday, RACGP President Dr Nicole Higgins, RACGP CEO Ms Georgina Van de Water, ACRRM GM of Education Services Ms Kyra Moss, RACGP Acting Chief GP Training Officer Sue Hefren, ACRRM National Lead Medical Educator (Supervision Support) Dr Coralie Endean, and RACGP Acting Head of GP Training Operations Ms Emma McLeay.

A significant outcome was the unilateral agreement that the SLO Advisory Council would send an official letter seeking the response of both Colleges and the Commonwealth, outlining potential steps forward on the 4 key advice points.
