Getting ready for 2024.2 - changes to registrar base rates of pay under the current NTCER

Published on April 22, 2024

When July 1st hits, it tends to get a bit messy as practices navigate increases to base rates by the MBS indexation for what remains of Semester 1... Then on top of this, a further increase negotiated in the 2022 NTCER Review (1%) must be applied from the start of Semester 2, where dates for this differ considerably by location and College.

While it's still far from simple, our NTCER webpage has been revised to outline the timing of the changes as clearly as possible:

  1. From July 1st 2024: MBS indexation increase (as will be announced by AMA in June 2024), and a 0.5% increase in superannuation to 11.5%.
  2. From the start of Semester 2, 2024: 1% increase to (the base rate for 2024.1 + the MBS Indexation)

Noting the dates for Semester 2:

  • ACRRM - 5 August 2024
  • RACGP - WA 15 July 2024; QLD, TAS 24 July 2024; NSW/ACT, VIC, SA, NT 5 August 2024

If you have a solution to this or any other aspect of registrar employment under the NTCER, please use your voice to influence the change you deserve via one of the workshops scheduled between April 29th and May 28th, and / or completing the NTCER survey.

And don't forget to complete the GPSA Annual National Survey - everyone involved in supervision needs to have their say in what the future for GP training should look like.
