September 2022... so much to do, so little time!
If ever I needed September to have a 31st day it's been this year!
The NTCER review has dominated this month, but for Nicole and me (and a few hundred supervisors from NSW/ACT), September started with a fun day of networking and shared dedication to supervision at the final Supervisor Education Day hosted by GP Synergy in the Sydney ICC. Equal focus has been given to preparing for the first full-blown GP conference following the COVID lockdowns, starting with RMA22 in Canberra - where GPSA is sponsoring the Supervisor Lunch, presenting a number of research papers, and holding our AGM (both in person and online). Nothing like a bit of pressure to get the blood zinging!!
And along the way, the announcement came through that our chair, the wonderful Dr Nicole Higgins from Mackay, has been voted in as the next President of RACGP. While she won't officially take up the role until the RACGP AGM held at the GP22 conference at the end of November, Nicole handed over the reins to Vice Chair of GPSA, Dr Kevin Arlett, mid-month.
As part of his baptism by fire, Kevin has been kept mighty busy in stakeholder engagement this month, joining me in several meetings with both Colleges, DOHAC, multiple fora with GPRA, and our first meeting as part of the Steering Committee for the Queensland Workforce Planning and Prioritisation (WPP) organisation. Just before the month was out, we finally got to meet for the first time: in Darwin, where we attended the impressive NTGPE Awards and Fellowship Ceremony. What an amazing bunch of people - registrars, supervisors, practice teams, MEs and RTO staff... and I have to give a special mention to all those musical GPs who took the literal center stage to entertain us throughout the night, amongst them our own Director Justin Coleman!
I am so honoured to be working in this sector.
