1. Supervisor Summit wrap-up
We welcomed 127 supervisors to our annual Supervisor Summit in Melbourne on 13 and 14 August.
Thank you to everyone who attended. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the valuable opportunities to debrief, process shared challenges, reconnect with peers, and collaborate on new ideas. It was fantastic to see such a strong balance of hospitalist, private practice, and remote interests represented. CPD certificates should be in your inboxes now. 2. Emergency Medicine AST Conference: Education, Connection and Clinical Practice
Goldfields, VIC | 17-19 September
Looking to advance your emergency medicine skills while meeting your CPD requirements? Join us at the Emergency Medicine AST Conference from 17–19 September 2026 at RACV Goldfields Resort, Victoria, for a dedicated clinical education event designed to bring together clinical education, practical sessions and opportunities to connect with peers and expert facilitators.
Across two and a half days, explore:
- Hands-on clinical skills workshops
- Targeted emergency medicine lectures
- Scenario-based learning
- Networking with fellow Rural Generalists
The conference is accredited for a total of 12.75 CPD hours (5.25 EA, 7.5 PR), including 7.5 hours that are eligible for EM MOPS. Eligible doctors can also apply for $4,000 in Rural Procedural Grants Program (RPGP) funding to attend.
3. Save the date: upcoming National Supervisor Webinar - Teaching IMGs
Thursday, 24 September at 7:00 PM AEST
This session will feature a presentation on teaching International Medical Graduates (IMGs), delivered by Dr Simon Morgan from GPSA and Dr James Best. It will provide valuable insights and practical strategies for supporting IMGs in training.

5. Supervisors' Compass Podcast – Getting the most out of clinical placements
How can supervisors create clinical placements where registrars feel supported, trusted and able to thrive? In this episode of the ACRRM RG podcast Supervisors’ Compass, Dr James Best and Professor Richard Hays are joined by recently Fellowed Rural Generalist Dr Rebecca (Bec) Devitt, who reflects on her own training to offer a recent registrar perspective on what makes a great clinical placement.
Bec shares what set her best placements and supervisors apart. The discussion explores the importance of understanding a registrar’s previous experience, goals and future clinical context, providing a strong orientation, and recognising the many non-clinical challenges that come with starting in a new practice, hospital and community.
They also discuss building trust, balancing independence with appropriate support, creating a safe environment for questions and difficult conversations, and helping registrars feel part of the broader practice and community.
For supervisors, this episode offers practical insights into creating placements that support learning, wellbeing and belonging while helping registrars grow into confident, capable Rural Generalists.
