SLO Advisory Council - Outcomes of First Meeting for 2026

Published on February 25, 2026
The first Supervisor Liaison Officer Advisory Council (SLOAC) meeting for 2026 was held recently online, the first with new incoming co-chairs James Best (ACRRM), Joanne Chafey (RACGP) and John Vaughan (RACGP). The new co-chairs had had a handover meeting with the previous co-chairs in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Part of this handover included the confirmation that both RACGP and ACRRM have agreed to include the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) in the Memorandum of Understanding of SLOAC, and this document will be updated accordingly.

Two ongoing issues were discussed:

Firstly, an ongoing negotiation between RACGP and ACRRM regarding bi-college cooperation in GP Supervisor education and professional development has resulted in a "Principles of Collaboration" (a joint RACGP/ACRRM document) being released. This outlines principles regarding supervisor professional development, and noted it stipulating that supervisors from either college can attend each other's supervisor activities (unless college-specific content, such as exam preparation) and that a calendar of events (hosted by GPSA) be developed to co-ordinate activites.

It also states that supervisor events delivered by one college are now officially open to all accredited supervisors, regardless of whether they belong to ACRRM or RACGP. There is also a proposed plan to develop regional bi-college organised events, with two events each year (one led by each college) in each region.

The other significant issue discussed was advice received from Ask Medicare advising that a supervisor and registrar cannot both claim time-based items for the same patient on the same day. While disappointing, it was decided that further discussion regarding this issue be continued with the Department of Health, as well as other ways of increasing GP Supervisor renumeration.

The remaining SLOAC meetings for 2026 are;
  • Online: June 3rd, 2026 (12:00 PM).
  • Face-to-Face (RLO/SLO): October 9th, 2026, in Sydney.
All SLOs from RACGP, ACRRM and RVTS are encouraged to attend.
All SLOs will be notified ahead of the meetings.
