To new beginnings and familiar milestones

It’s the dawn of another year of teaching, mentoring, scaffolding and inspiring; another year of turning our daily challenges into valuable learning opportunities for GPs-in-training, medical students and internationally-qualified doctors.

These initial few weeks may feel familiar for all of us supporting learners in general practice, clinicians and practice managers alike; yet there are always new things to learn and adopt, and new learning needs to cater for...

From surviving to thriving: building a better future together

Your wellbeing and satisfaction are among GPSA’s top priorities.

We’ve been monitoring wellbeing for several years and the results are sobering, with around three in every four GP supervisors experiencing symptoms of burnout… But we’re moving in the right direction; this year saw a significant improvement in engagement and lower exhaustion (see the 2024 National supervision survey report). We’re uncovering key drivers of wellbeing – such as workplace support for selfcare, personal selfcare practices, and a belief in the prosocial value of one’s work – to shape policies that satisfy and support the values that attract clinicians both to the general practice specialty and to the vital role of GP supervision. Towards this end, GPSA is also partnering with several organisations to build an evidence-base of interventions and strategies that will nurture and support the GP supervision community to thrive, not just survive.
