“There is no absolute truth”…

or is there?

The fundamental truth of our current primary care system and apprenticeship model is that, regardless of the funding models we do or don’t apply, without supervisors’ contributions it would all disintegrate...

NTCER Review - negotiations ongoing

Throughout July, the GPSA negotiation team engaged continuously with our GPRA counterparts via online meetings and written exchanges in pursuit of a mutually agreeable conclusion to the biennial review of the National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of Registrars (NTCER).

As we head into August, cognisant of our joint goal of finalising the review and updating the NTCER document and corresponding templates in time for the upcoming placement process, we want to assure you that we are driven most importantly by the mandate you have provided us as your representative organisation: to pursue an outcome that reflects the solutions-focus promoted by participants in our survey and workshops without inflicting an untenable burden on our diverse body of members.

An update on the ongoing negotiations will be sent to you later this month.

Help improve GP Training: Encourage participation in the NRS survey!

The National Registrar Survey (NRS) is now open for AGPT, RVTS, and RGTS registrars. This survey gathers crucial insights into their experiences, satisfaction, and career plans, helping to enhance GP training programs and benefiting general practice.

Why your support matters

The NRS will help the Department of Health & Aged Care:

  • Improve the quality of GP registrar training
  • Address registrars’ needs and concerns
  • Shape future training programs

How you can help

Mention the survey to your registrars at your next staff meeting or teaching session. The survey closes on 10th August, so please act quickly. Your encouragement can make a big difference.

New Registrars

Every six months, a new cohort of GPT1 registrars see their first patients in general practice. For many, the transition from hospital practice to working in the community setting is highly challenging, likened to being a 'deer in the headlights', and associated with high levels of anxiety and stress. The GP supervisor plays a fundamental role in supporting their new GPT1 registrars as they navigate the first weeks and months of general practice. This includes equipping them with the 'survival skills' to manage their early clinical encounters, and helping them identify and prioritise their early learning needs. To this end, GPSA has developed a suite of resources and references to assist supervisors with their support of the new GP trainee. We hope that you find them useful.
