The results from GPSA’s national supervision survey are in!
GPSA's annual national supervision survey is just one important way that we connect with our members and translate your passion for GP/RG training – and concerns – into action. This year, we put the spotlight on the training pipeline and invited special interest contributions from our membership. GPSA surveyed over 500 members involved in GP/RG training from all Australian states, territories, and ruralities.
Here’s a snapshot of some key findings to whet your appetite:
Experience begets intentions: those who’ve supervised/hosted medical learners in the past are up to 25 times more likely to be planning to continue into the future - signalling that, despite its challenges, supervision leads to job satisfaction;
External Clinical Teaching Visits (ECTVs) are gold: GPSA members highly value ECTVs as a useful method of teaching and assessing registrars;
More focus is needed on Residential Aged Care: the overall view is that our communities need GP/RG registrars to incorporate more time in RACFs as part of their training;
Ups and Downs in Wellbeing: the good news is that disengagement is falling, but on the flip-side exhaustion is rising.
These findings speak to the importance of GPSA’s efforts to energise the supervisors and practice teams training the next generation of GPs and RGs, attract more like-minded champions to this community, and agitate for change. Together, we can build a better future.
Thanks to all our members who used this opportunity to engage, and especially those who contributed ideas and topics of interest to guide GPSA's future focus.
A full report of the findings will be available next month – watch this space!
